Harry Martin

Harry Victor Martin, 78, of Hilo worked for Isemoto Contracting Co. and was also a supervisor at Yamada &Sons Construction Co. Information supplied by the mortuary was incorrect.

Masae Saito

Masae T. Saito, 98, of Hilo died Sept. 7, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paauilo Mauka, she ws a retired office manager for Frank Huff Agency and member of Taishoji Soto Mission, the first woman president of the Taishoji Soto Mission (Kyodan), an adviser of the Taishoji Soto Mission (Komon), a lifetime member of the FCE, a real estate agent and member of the Komohana Kumiai.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at 1:30 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park and Cemetery.

She is survived by son, Kenneth (Barbara Jean) Saito of Hilo; brother, Al (Elaine) Takayama of Honolulu; sister, Ruth Shinno of San Diego; one grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Esther Brown

Esther Puailiau Brown, 65, of Kealakekua died July 15, 2015, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Kealakekua, she was a cashier at the Food Mart, a driver for Robert’s Hawaii and Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council and an ukulele teacher at the Hale Hookipa Senior Center.

Friends may call at noon Sept. 19 at Makaeo Events Pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park for a celebration of life.Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by daughters, Lenora (David) Brown, Arlene (Preston) Henderson and Melis Jones, all of Atlanta, Tracy (Michael) Sims of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Karin (Pat) Haleamau of Huehue Ranch, Solomon (Patsy) Haleamau of Kalaoa; sisters, Florence (Rudy) Mockchew of Kalaoa, Laverne (Charles) Howard of Waimea; stepmother, Juana Rosario of Kealakehe; stepbrothers, Junior Rosario of Kailua-Kona, Eddie Rosario of Ocean View; 21 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary “Fat” Kehaulani Kaupu, 56, of Kealakekua died Sept, 7, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pahala on July 11, 1959, she was a custodian at Konawaena Elementary School and waitress at the Regency at Hualalai.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 26 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kona State Center in Kailua-Kona for a 10 a.m. service. Luncheon and fellowship will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by companion, Lorrielynn Kawaauhau of Kealakekua; mother, Marymae Kaupu of Kealakekua; brothers, Larry (Dutchee) Kaupu Jr. of Mark Twain, McKinley (Michelle) Kaupu and Rudolph (Corinne) Kaupu, both of Ocean View; sisters, Stephanie (Kevin) Kaupu-Ceaser of Ocean View, Cheryl Kaneholani of Glenwood, Eleanor (Gerald) Kaupu-Fontes of Kealakehe, Leslie (Joe) Kaneholani of Kauai, Brianne (Malia) Kaupu of Kailua-Kona; hanai daughters, Ayesha Kihe-Pelekane, Keiha Kihe-Pelekane, Jalisha Kihe-Pelekane and Katisha Kihe-Pelekane, all of Kealakekua; hanai son, Ikaika Pelekane of Kealakekua, Buddy Kawaauhau III of Kealakekua; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mealani Bosler

Mealani Stone Bosler, 62, of Honaunau died Aug. 23, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 7, 1953, in Puunene, Maui, she was a homemaker, owner and operator of Pohaku Cleaning, member of the Bishop Museum and supporter of AdvoCats.

She is survived by husband, John Clark of Honaunau; sister, April Lightbourne of Arizona; brothers, Michael Mikiala (Taina) Stone of The Philippines, Makaala (Margaret) Stone of Makawao, Maui; one granddaughter; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dixie LeMay

Dixie Jo Elgin LeMay, 83, of Kailua-Kona died July 26, 2015, at her residence. Born Dec. 2, 1931, in Omak, Wash., she was a retired secretary in the food processing industry and past member of the Oroville Eagles Lodge.

A memorial celebration will be held in Washington state at a later date. Donations in her name may be sent to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

She is survived by daughters, Rebecca Pierson, Roberta (Raymond) Lahm, both of Kailua-Kona, Jennifer (Eli Whitney) Irving of Girdwood, Alaska, Michelle (Grant) Rice of Spokane, Wash.; son, Richard (Kalena) LeMay of Kailua-Kona; sister, Sally (David Campbell) Smith Campbell of Tonasket, Wash.; 11 grandchildren,; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ardis Pauline Gouveia, 70, of Keaau died Aug. 14, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a cook at K’s Drive-In.

Peter “Patti” R. Santos, 77, of Mountain View died Sept. 12, 2015, at home. He was born July 25, 1938, in Hawaii.

He is survived by companion, Daniel White of Mountain View; brother, John Santos of Mountain View; sisters, Rosita Santos of Mountain View, Margaret Gonsalves and Carmelita Tavares, both of Kaneohe, Oahu, Alvina DeSoto and Dolores Santos, both of Keaau; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jack Tetsuyuki Tagawa, 89, of Hilo died Aug. 19, 2015, at his home. Born May 20, 1926, in Wailea, he was a retired state Department of Education accountant, a World War II Army veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Eloise Tagawa of Hilo; sons, Darren (Cyd) Tagawa of Hilo, Miles (Kym) Tagawa of Waikoloa; daughters, Maxine (Kevin Ikeda) Millard of Hilo, Marlene (George) Li of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Michael Chang

Michael Edwin Siu Ling Chang, 53, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 22, 2015, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born March 18, 1962, in San Francisco, he was a former investment broker and flight attendant.

He is survived by sons, Michael Chang, Daniel Chang, both of La Cresenta, Calif.; daughter, Sophie Romano of Ponchatoula, La.; father, Edwin Chang of Honolulu; brother, Eric (Nicole) Chang of Honolulu; sister, Susan (Cliff) Rees of Sykesville, Md.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marie Keller

Marie T. Keller, nee Sloan, 105, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 2, 2015. Born July 12, 1910, in Philadelphia, she was a World War II Army veteran, dietician and homemaker.

She is survived by daughter, Patricia (Michael J.) Krochina of Kailua-Kona; four grandchildren.

Hiroko Nakamatsu

Hiroko Nakamatsu, 95, of Hilo died Aug. 7, 2015, at a care home in Hilo. Born Dec. 12, 1919, in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons, Gerald Nakamatsu of Kurtistown, Joey (Nancy) Nakamatsu of Hilo, Russell Nakamatsu of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Lani (Larry) Aguinaldo of Hilo; caregivers, Esmeralda and Ronald Miyazaki of Hilo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Julie Marie McMillan, 55, of Ocean View died Sept. 5, 2014, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born March 26, 1959, in National City, Calif., she was a junior high school lunch preparer.

Yoshie Ueno, 72, of Hilo died June 23, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Hawaii and retired from Sure N Save as a clerk.
